Janie

She's a special one. I feel personally her view on love is extremely inaccurate and she is also too quick to jump to the decision that she is in love. Her relationship with Jody all erupted because of a brief meeting of the two and she made a stupid decision to leave with him. I don't understand how you can fall in love with someone in a matter of hours or minutes. Maybe she believes in love at first sight, but love is so much more than looks. Love exists on emotional levels and for Janie to claim she is in love after a few minutes is absurd to me.

Thankful for....

In my Englissh class, I'm thankful for my good homie Max. He's been A1 since day one when we first met in 8th grade. He's really mean to me but its all good cause I'm still better than him at dancing. I am also thankful for fellow student Ellaina cause she's pretty chill and because she let me camp at her house when I was locked out of my house. I also like Brandon cause every Friday when I'm busy at Breaks club with Max, he got the hookup of Peach Fanta and candy. I love you the most Brandon cause you get me soda. Max never got me anything.

Principles that Should Stay Put

Preservation of culture is something I believe is a must in society. Me personally, I was shaped by my Chinese culture and hip hop culture. As people progress on in their lives, they forget their culture in the process. Now moving forward in life and society is a great thing, we accomplish so much and are not limited, instead, we have the whole horizon to explore. But we lose a sense of where we all come from. Me, as I grew older, I started to lose sight of my roots. I started speaking less Chinese, I didn't take on my culture proudly, I started to actually talk a lot of trash about my roots. And there was the moment in my teenage life where I realized how important preserving my culture was.

For me, culture is what makes a person unique. How I was raised is different than that of other people. If everyone went one way and everyone threw away their culture and how they were raised, how would the world be? Cities like New York and Chicago are the last frontiers for culture. Cities are more diverse than any other parts of the world. Hanging on to culture is a privilege because that makes you unique. I look at the suburbs, people are trying to throw away their cultures. No disrespect but I can't imagine living somewhere where there is no cultural diversity and that mindset to preserve your roots.

Hemingway

Me personally, I feel like Hemingway was in a way a genius in the way he wrote his literature, but in sense, a lost prodigy. It's confusing, but he was an astounding author, but he did things that made me skeptical of his literary genius. He seemed very strange to me in a lot of ways. For one, he had a lot of wives. Way too many to be honest. Hemingway was very unique in a sense as well, I guess that's what contributing to this idea to me of him being strange. He was unique and interesting. He had a lot of hobbies, he lived in many parts of the world, other than writing, he hunted and fished.

Hemingway is a genius in my eyes because of his work. I respect his work, but some of his personal decisions really intrigue me. He seems like a fun guy, but he also in a sense seems mental as well. To me, at least. Hemingway reminds me of a really urban hipster just because he's so unique and is very different than other people in a good way. He did things his way, he has an original style. I respect that.

John Proctor: Hero or Stooge?

I feel John Proctor is a little bit on the hero side. He is brave enough to die for the truth, instead of being saved on false confession. Now that is what a real man is made of, standing up for the truth no matter what cause. But in this moment, it is of life and death. Personally, dying for the truth is something I would not consider because life is too vital to quit. Live it till the end, not waste your last moments imprisoned under the truth when you can be released by false confession. But Proctor has major guts to commit to his mind and what he believes in. Kudos to him though. I don't think people of my type would not be able to do so.

....And There Goes the Neighborhood

It was a sunny day that day, we were doing our daily rituals, hunting, farming, all that. Later that day, my father came across a group of men, a group of men I had never seen before. They were pale skinned, tall, skinny folk. They were not from around, I could tell. Their clothes were too exotic too recognize. They seem to be settling nearby us. Right outside our hut.

It has been a month, more than 400 people of their kind has moved into the area. They have chopped down a portion of our forest surrounding us. They have made housing with those materials. They seem friendly, but seem to take advantage of our people.

Its been a year, they outnumber us now. They mock our people, they have taken over. We do not stand a chance. They're big and strong. They murdered a few of our people, a few of us has gotten sick in contact with these people. They are trying to convert us to their religion. I am scared and I fear for my life because of these people.  They do not respect the land around us, they take advantage of us and chop down our forest. Our holy sacred forest.

Me in 200 words and more

I am Kyle Yu. I am a student of Whitney Young and I love music, sneakers, science. I was born in Chicago in the December of 1998 on the 28th. I grew up around the Chinatown area, then I moved farther away in Bridgeport where I now live. As a kid, my main focus on life was music, sports, and school. I loved music at a young age. I played the piano at age 4, and I still do. I listen to Hip Hop and R&B on a daily basis, but when I do homework, I stay close to my beginnings and listen to classical music. Music has affected my life in good and bad ways. I have won prizes and competition playing at competitions and I made a name for myself for a few years, but it drives me crazy. EDM has gotten me all hyped and crazy.

I love sports. Especially basketball and soccer. Soccer is my favorite sport considering I have been playing soccer since I was 5, and I love basketball because I played as long as I remember. Sports has been a crucial reason why I actually go outside. I'm so lazy often I don't want to do anything. But give me a basketball or a soccer ball, I'm gone. I play goalie or offense when I play soccer, and forward mainly when playing basketball.

Now school, it is part of everyone in America's lives at one point. Especially growing up in a very traditional Chinese family with high expectations. I like school surprisingly, maybe because I understand the value of education on a level not many people see. There are consequences to not doing good in school, and because I realize those consequences, I fear what happens if I make mistakes. I might just be really nerdy, but I try to work my hardest to avoid those problems in the future.
